DUBAI – Dubai has expanded its network of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure with the opening of a new 820-metre bridge linking Al Mamzar and Al Khawaneej via Al Nahda.

Developed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the bridge provides a dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists while connecting several of the emirate's key cycling corridors. The project is designed to improve accessibility between residential and recreational areas and strengthen Dubai's commitment to sustainable, non-motorised transport.

The newly opened bridge directly connects with the Al Khawaneej and Al Warqa cycling tracks, extending the route to Saih Al Salam and creating a continuous corridor for cyclists and pedestrians across multiple parts of the emirate. The enhanced connectivity is expected to make travelling by bicycle more practical and convenient for both residents and visitors.

Connected routes

The bridge serves as an important addition to Dubai's expanding cycling infrastructure, providing a seamless link between established cycling tracks and encouraging greater use of active transport. By connecting Al Mamzar, Al Nahda, Al Khawaneej, Al Warqa and Saih Al Salam through a continuous route, cyclists can now travel across a wider section of the emirate without interruption.

The dedicated bridge has also been designed to improve safety by offering pedestrians and cyclists their own purpose-built crossing, reducing conflicts with vehicle traffic while enhancing comfort and accessibility.

Sustainable mobility

The project forms part of the RTA's broader strategy to promote sustainable mobility by encouraging walking and cycling as practical alternatives to private vehicle use. It also aligns with Dubai's long-term vision of creating a more integrated, environmentally sustainable transport network that supports healthier lifestyles.

Dubai has continued to invest heavily in expanding its cycling and pedestrian infrastructure in recent years, developing dedicated tracks, bridges and walkways across the emirate. These projects are intended to improve connectivity between communities, provide safer and more convenient travel options, and encourage more people to choose active modes of transport for both leisure and everyday journeys.
